Aspect ratio

Youtube has a nice feature: "watch in high quality" for all video that have resolution higher than 640x480 (conventional video). Apparently, my native video footage is in 720x480 (widescreen). Because, these two formats have different aspect ratios, saving the final video in 640x480 produces one of two problems:

1. Picture is stretched vertically.
or
2. Picture is in letterbox format.

Youtube.com automatically converts widescreen video into 4x3 aspect ratio by using "letterbox format."
Vimeo.com doesn't have this problem because it shows video in widescreen format.

Problem 1 creates better viewer experience. Problem 2 has 100% authentic picture dimensions.
