The website for BikeCoastToCoastVideoProject is almost ready. I need to select the name of the site. We all use websites every day, but picking a name for my own new site may not be as easy as it seems.
First, I need a name that captures the essence of the project, which is:
videos about Maksim Kalashnikov and partners riding bicycles across the United States.
Possible keywords are: bike, biking, video, coast to coast, Maksim Kalashnikov, across US, project, transUS.
Second, the site name should be easy, catchy, and not too generic. A generic name "bikevideo.org" is easy to remember, but can mean any biking video in the world -- too generic.
Third, the shorter it is, the better.
Forth, it needs to be easily pronounceable in English. For example, the name of the island of St. Croix is pronounced as "saint croi", which is different from its spelling. Ideally, the name of the web site wouldn't be ambiguous.
Fifth, the name should be appealing to both English and Russian speakers.
Sixth, Maksim's web site designated to his trip is called "bikecoasttocoast.org". Many people already know his web site. It would be good to build on that. The most logical thing is to have a site called: "video.bikecoasttocoast.org". However, this means that I need to register my site through Maksim's DNS name, and I will loose my DNS registration if Maksim takes his site down.
Seventh, since Mike donated "zont.com" I could host the web site on it: "zont.com/bikecoasttocoast", or "zont.com/bikevideo". There are two problems with that: (1) the name zont.com is not related to Maksim's trip. (2) ".com" doesn't reflect non-commercial nature of our project.
Eighth, it would be nice to reflect finite nature of this effort. After all the videos are done, there will be no more development of this web site. Strangely enough, most current web sites dedicated to projects don't say that. For example: "happyfeetthemovie.com" or www.meetthespartans.com" or "thebucketlist.warnerbros.com".
