Ryan Harrington's Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund

Here's the e-mail I sent today to my classmates at NYU. (I fixed some typos and added comments in square brackets.)

Hi all,

After reading about Ryan Harrington [see my previous post about him] online, I decided to submit my velovideo.org project to the Gucci Fund, for which he works. Maybe, they will give me some money for recovering costs of the project and also hiring an experienced video editor. I asked Danielle [my NYU teacher] for Ryan's phone/email, so I can ask him a few questions about the submission.

I don't expect that Danielle and Ryan's friendship will actually help me win. Ryan and other jurors are not giving their own money, but Gucci's. They are accountable to Gucci for the documentaries they select. So, to win, my submission needs to be good.

The submission requires a videoclip and a bunch of descriptions. The deadline is next Friday. I don't have anything ready, so I'm crunching. Not sure if I'll actually finish on time, so I'll probably skip the class next Wednesday.

If you have an idea for a doc and some video footage, you should consider submitting. What do you have to loose? They may give you some money to develop your idea into a full feature documentary. Initially, I was thinking to post my videos online as series of short clips. But, a professional editor may be able to combine my footage into a feature-length film.
